Guest Poet 2 (Pete Slater - A Stranger Calls)

(Here is our second guest poet - a good friend of mine Pete Slater who offers a very different perspective on ghost stories. Next to follow in the next few days as guest poet will be Hazel Connolly).

A STRANGER CALLS

No one sees me

Standing there?

A blur?

A stranger

Soft focussed.

I am a traveller,

Non-plussed

By my surroundings.

How can it be

That no one sees

The benefits I bring?

I am the keeper of the past

I am the foundation

On which we build

A future filled with hope,

With light

A light bright enough

To show the way

Hope enough to say

“My future’s safe”

“I will not be a waif”

“Born out of Armageddon’s play.”

What’s that you say?

You don’t know me.

My name is,

Memory.

(Pete Slater is an accidental poet. His poetry is honest and straight from the heart. Pete has been a regular on the N/W poetry circuit for a couple of years and has been guest poet at several venues. He is also the muse in a collaboration with John "Blackneck" Matthews, an accomplished bluesman in the newly formed duo, Muse 'n' Blues, already support guests at Cadence Café in Tyldesley)
